John Walling, President and CEO, Commercial, Greater Lafayette Health Services, will make a presentation about "The Future of Lafayette from the Perspective of a Health Care Provider." Mr. Walling will be introduced by TOM.

MEETING FUNCTIONS: Money Collectors - FRED ANDERSON substituting for JIM HOBBS 11:15 to 11:45, and KEN EWING substituting for GORDY YOUNG 11:45 to 12:15; Greeters - BERTIE BUCHANAN and JEFF WEAVER; Invocation - HUGH STEELE; Music - BOB FORD; and host of high school guests (Central Catholic) - DICK WALKER substituting for EARL PARK.

CLUB CONCERNS: Prior to the invocation today, President BOB GRIFFITHS (President BOB) requested members to remember the following in their thoughts and prayers: LINDA EWING, spouse of KEN; CONNIE GRIFFITHS, spouse of President BOB; JANE HALL, spouse of YB is at George Davis Manor to recover from a recent fall; CHRISTOPH HOFFMANN, spouse of KAREN JOHNSON-HOFFMANN; KAREN indicated, during a telephone conversation this afternoon, that CHRISTOPH is home, doing good, and plans to return to teaching by late February; MARGARET HALL; and HUGH STEELE.

THOMAS B. ROBINSON (TOM) with classification EDUCATION--University-Vice President-Student Services, was introduced by his sponsor MARTHA CHISCON. TOM and his spouse, NANCY, are parents of two adult sons, and reside at 1301 Ravinia Road, West Lafayette, IN 47906-2332 - telephone 497-8277. NANCY is a reading specialist and is currently supervising student teachers at Cumberland and Happy Hollow Elementary Schools. TOM is Vice President for Student Services, Purdue, with office in Schleman Hall of Student Services--Purdue, West Lafayette, IN 47907 - telephone 494-5775, FAX 496-1109. TOM's Rotary committees are Glee Club Outing (BOB FORD, Chair), and Scholarship & Citizenship (KAREN JOHNSON-HOFFMANN, Chair).

ANNUAL DINNER - TUESDAY, MARCH 23, 1999 (please remember, no regular Club meeting on this day): The Club's Annual Dinner (Dinner) - this year at the University Inn and Conference Center - is an evening of festivity and fun which traditionally includes entertainment by the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, directed by BRIAN BREED; Glee Club members join Rotarians, spouses, and special guests at their tables for dinner. A significant part of the Club's cost related to the Annual Dinner are the cost of meals provided to the Glee Club and to the spouses of deceased Rotarians. Please consider financial assistance to sponsor one or two of the Club's guests. Even if you are unable to attend the Dinner, your support is still needed and appreciated. The evening starts with an open cash bar at 6:00 p.m., and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets, $25.00 per person, are on sale each Tuesday by DALE MC HENRY at the money collection table.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH EXCHANGE COMMITTEE (Committee): Think about becoming a Rotary Host Family for a high school exchange student. NICK CLARK, Committee Chair, says that those of us who are grandparents, as well a those of us with children, should think about becoming host families. Students arrive in August and depart the following July; the year is usually divided into four equal portions by host families. Since Lafayette Daybreak Club is partnering in this Program, our Club only needs two families who will host for three months each. Give NICK a call at 423-4617 (office) or 296-9943 (home). Deadline is April 1, 1999.

GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE (GSE) TEAM from FRANCE, District 1780, will be in the Greater Lafayette area, hosted by Lafayette and Daybreak, from after breakfast on Saturday, April 3, 1999 (picked up at Danville, IN) to after breakfast on Wednesday, April 7, 1999 (picked up by the Greencastle Club). WALLY TYNER, Chair, GSE Team Committee, will be requesting assistance from Club members to host this group. The teams consists of: Jean-Pierre Bertuzzi, Team Leader; Cristel Arraz, English and Russian High School Teacher; Patrick Boucq, Tourism Manager for Alps Resort; Geraldine Lievre, Computer Science Engineer; Mathieu Degret, Progress Engineer in Electro-chemical Industry; and Anne Deschamps, Legal Adviser.

NEW MEMBER RECEPTION: Membership Retention Committee, SANDY PEARLMAN, Chair, will be hosting a new member reception at the University Inn and Conference Center, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 1999. Invitations to eligible new members, directors, officers, and committee members are in the mail; RSVPs are due back to GRIFF or SANDY by Friday, February 19th.

WEST LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL GUESTS: Erin Sparks, Brian Berndt (Brian was ill on December 8th, so attended today), and Karl Kraebber, guests of the Club and hosted/introduced by BRUCE OWENS. BRUCE presented certificates of recognition and President BOB presented "Rotary Travel Mugs" (4-Way Test on them) to Erin, Brian, and Karl.

ROTARY FAMILY NEWS:

JIM HANKS ("Leader" picture) became the latest Jim Hanks Rotarian featured in the series of articles, Lafayette Leaders, by Lillian Price; a very nice article about JIM, BESS, and their family.

TOM PEARSON introduced Jim Shook, Jr. who made a most interesting presentation regarding the future of Lafayette from his perspective as a real estate professional. Jim most graciously offered his presentation; a copy is available from GRIFF.
