5 Ways to Inspire Through Vocational Service

By Nancy J. Stearman on Sunday, January 8, 2023
January is Rotary’s Vocational Service Month, a great time to leverage vocational service in your club projects and activities. Vocational Service calls on us to empower others by using our unique skills and expertise to address community needs and help others discover new professional opportunities and interests.

In this excerpt from Rotary Service and Engagement Staff… Here are five ways you can incorporate vocational service in your club activities:
  1. Host a club meeting at your workplace and share about your profession; take time to learn about fellow members’ occupations.
  2. Use your skills and expertise to serve a community.
  3. Practice your profession with integrity, and inspire others to behave ethically through your words and actions.
  4. Work with local businesses to create mentorship, internship, or practicum opportunities to help young people achieve their career goals.
  5. Guide and encourage others in their professional development.
Do you want to see examples of clubs taking action around the world? CLICK HERE to check out the vocational service projects on Rotary Showcase highlighting how Rotarians contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of their communities.

MID-YEAR ANNUAL FUND REPORT

By Michael J. Kull on Sunday, January 8, 2023
As of December 31, we had an average of $42.69 per District Rotarian contributed to the Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund. This is the source of our District Matching Grants, Global Scholarships, and Global Grants. The Rotary Foundation is different from most charities in that 50% comes back to the District for local and global projects, and the remaining 50% is available to use for global projects.

Last year, 50% of District Rotarians contributed. Thank You. DG Nancy is encouraging every Rotarian to contribute at least $25 if you’re not able to contribute to our goal of $100 per Rotarian. So far, 532 District Rotarians have contributed to the Annual Fund. 37 of 55 clubs have contributed. Thank You. At this LINK you can see how your club is doing.

Congratulations to these six clubs who have already achieved STAR club status: Elkton, East Louisville Sunrise, Greensburg, Paducah, Hardinsburg and LaGrange.

Frankfort Hits Centennial Mark

By William A. Miller on Sunday, January 8, 2023
The Frankfort Rotary Club has reached a major milestone in its illustrious history: 2022 marked the 100th anniversary of an outstanding service club that has been involved in a wide variety of local and international projects. In an effort to achieve the “Service Above Self” motto of Rotary International, the club is working on local projects to assist the Salvation Army, conduct literacy programs and provide student scholarships in the community. Internationally, the club has donated to clean water projects in El Salvador, friendship exchanges and supported the unique Polioplus Program that brought together Rotary International, the United Nations and the Centers for Disease Control to eliminate the scourge of polio worldwide. Additionally, in 1988, the club was an integral player in encouraging Rotary International to establish the Rotary Day at the UN Program, which convened Rotary and UN leaders to identify humanitarian projects for future cooperation. Please CLICK HERE to view a recent article in the Frankfort State-Journal highlighting many of the club’s accomplishments and history over the past 100 years.

Rotary Fellowships - Join Today

By Melissa Webb Earnest on Wednesday, December 7, 2022
Do you like being with others who share the same interests as you? Would you like to learn about something new? If so, a Rotary Fellowship might just the group you’ve been wanting to join! If there isn’t one established already for your passion or interest, you can always start one.

Just recently I won a beautiful handmade artisan “Our Family Tree” plaque from the Fellowship of Rotarian Genealogists (FORG). This was made possible by being the first to respond online at the last Zoom meeting, which records other than photos I like to keep with my family genealogy records. This request came as part of the FORG newsletter which is full of interesting family histories and instructions for how to search genealogy archives and even family recipes. It is well worth the small fee to join and you receive a beautiful FORG pin to wear along with your other Rotary pins. Read More

Annual Area 5 Rotary Christmas Dinner

By Gaye McCubbin on Sunday, January 8, 2023
The Annual Area 5 Rotary Christmas Dinner was held December 8, 2022 at the Rosewood Grill. The Lebanon Club is in the central location, so they oversaw getting reservations from the other 4 participating clubs: Greensburg, Campbellsville, Springfield and Bardstown. District Governor Nancy Stearman and husband Otha Ray, attended and spoke about the Rose Bowl Parade on January 2, encouraging Rotary members to watch for Nancy riding/walking along the side of the Rotary float down the 6-mile route. Governor-Elect Tom Reed also attended the dinner. This highly anticipated event is well attended because it gives all of the Rotarians in the Area 5 clubs the opportunity to meet and greet Rotarians in the area, outside their home clubs.
