Club Meeting September 20

Army Futures Command -
Chief Warrant Officer 5 Ed De La Cruz

United States Army Futures Command (AFC) was established in 2018 and designed as a public-private initiative that runs modernization projects for the Army. Headquartered in Austin, AFC integrates on a daily basis with entrepreneurs, scientists and businesses to employ an entrepreneurial spirit of accepting the risk of failure early and cheaply in order to create the best solutions for Soldiers.

The decision to locate AFC in Austin represents the first time the Army has placed a major command within an urban setting as opposed to an Army post. Much of the AFC’s work is accomplished through four subordinate supporting commands:
  • Combat Capabilities Development Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland
  • Medical Research and Development Command at Fort Detrick, Maryland
  • Futures and Concepts Center at Fort Eustis, Virginia
  • Army Software Factory in Austin, Texas.

AFC operates through collaborative partnerships with industry and academia to help keep Soldiers safe, America strong, and to win on any future battlefield.

This week's meeting will be held in-person at Ben Hur (and also live-streamed on Zoom)!!

For those of you who can't join us in-person, you're invited to our LIVESTREAM Weekly Lunch Program!

Early Act First Knight

By Amy Jackson
EarlyAct FirstKnight is a revolutionary character and ethics education program for K-8 school children that, for the first time, puts Rotary into mainstream public education. Teaching the Rotary tradition of “Service Above Self” through the visually captivating theme of knightly heroes, EarlyAct FirstKnight supplements Rotarian-led bi-monthly campus service clubs with a comprehensive year-round curriculum-based character education program.

Coupled with EAFK, the student service club permeates the entire student population with daily Rotary-centered academics which dramatically enhance individual student character and service club participation.

We need at least 2 Rotarians per ceremony to be there to cheer on the honorees and their families! Sign up here.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Amy Jackson 817.307.4881 alebusjackson@gmail.com

Global Grant Scholarship Applications Open

Please spread the word! The Rotary Club of Austin is now accepting applications for global grant scholarships.

These grants provide funding for post-baccalaureate study in one of Rotary's seven Areas of Focus at an accredited university in a country outside of the US.

The grants have changed the lives of recipients -- hear Sarah Fischer's story.
